Welcome to Johnstown Village

Welcome to the homepage of Johnstown Village, Co Kildare. This website has been developed by Johnstown Community Association.

The oldest historical monument in the area carries carvings similar to those at Newgrange which have been dated to around 2,500 to 3,000 BC. Johnstown Village has a rich history and its past residents featured strongly on both sides of the British-Irish conflict from 1798 to 1920. Johnstown was one of the first flash points of the 1798 rising and later was home to both John Devoy (‘the greatest fenian of them all’) and The 6th Earl of Mayo, Richard Southwell Bourke who was three times appointed Chief Secretary for Ireland by the British Government.  Read more about the village’s past here.

More recently, Johnstown has experienced rapid expansion with the addition of new housing estates, shops and factories. It is now home to over 1,200 residents (over half of which are less than 18 years old) and some 18 businesses of various sizes. Its proximity to the N7 and short commuting time to Dublin, Naas and Newbridge make Johnstown an excellent location for the perfect life/work balance.

This website has been created to help us achieve our mission of Making Johnstown a Better Place to Work and Live. To this end, I welcome suggestions from all residents, visitors, organisations and businesses on how we can improve this website to make it more relevant to your needs. Please feel free to contact us at any stage to discuss changes to the website or to discuss any other matter which you feel the Johnstown Community Association should address.

We hope you enjoy the website.
